The 8mm "Data8" magnetic tape data cartridge storage format was an evolution of the helical-scan Video8 format, developed by manufacturer Exabyte in 1987. The tape medium itself is 8mm wide, packaged in a compact plastic cartridge containing dual reels, and was initially 15, 54, or 112 meters long. Later generations, using Advanced Metal Evaporated (AME) tape, came in 22, 45, 75, 125, 150, 170 and 225 meter lengths.
